Information for Staff
Gilwell 24 is produced by a team from the 2nd Gilwell Park fellowship. A majority of the staff at the event will be provided by the fellowship however we do need additional people and teams.
If you wish to apply online please visit the site here
We will be developing a sub-site for staff wishing to apply to work at the event as part of our plan to upgrade the existing Fellowship event registration system. However if you would like to offer you services please let us know by email - dgillard@gilwell24.info
If you would like to help but are planning on bringing Explorers to Gilwell 24 we are in the process of putting a package together. You will still get to attend the event as the leader of your Explorers and receive an event shirt but won't have to pay in exchange for some of your time during the event. The amount of staff we will obtain like this will be limited. Again please let us know by email if you are interested in helping and any skills or qualifications you hold. Please also check out the information for leaders.
Some activities are supplied by scout teams who run the activities such as
Climbing
Prussiking
Archery
Air Rifle Shooting
Some activities are suppied by appropriate external companies
Woodland Quaser
Quaser
Quad Bikes
Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting
When are staff needed?
The week before we are ideally looking for around ten staff to help get the site ready for the event and start getting things out. There are a number of big and school groups in this week so we will be having to work around them. There will be lots of things that need to be purchased or collected so if you are able to pop up for an afternoon or evening it would be appreciated.
Friday day / night.
During Friday we are expecting up to 300 participants to arrive plus a majority of our staff. We need staff to assist with a limited amount of car parking and kits run. Most of the participants will be camping on Branchet FIeld although there are other international groups arriving who might appreciate a bit more help setting up. There is also additional help required helping Grim setup the Gilwell Marathon and making sure all the Gauntlet activities are ready to go.
Saturday Morning / Day
The majority of participants will arrive from 7am we expect an additional 700+ participants will need to be car parked, checked in and pointed in the right direction for a 9am start. Activities will need to be staffed and site services will need to be maintained. We will always need to be one step ahead of the participants getting the next set of activities ready. A seperate team will be helping Grim run the Gilwell Marathon and making sure we get all of the participants back onto site and accounted for. We will also be running challenge valley again so will need a full team for this.
Saturday Night / Sunday Morning
In the past we have had a quiet time from around midnight till 1am. This isn't going to be happening this year instead we are looking for people to help run a five a side football tournament under floodlights on Essex Chase and a selection of team games as a warm up to the Gauntlet.
The Gilwell Gauntlet will start at 3am and run for three hours in the Lid and surrounding area. Nick Godden is heading up the team putting the Gauntlet activities together and will be looking for help building the activities in advance we will also need a large team to help run them. This is really important as its the key challenge for the participants and we need plenty of awake and not so awake staff to motivate the tired teams through it.
Sunday Morning
Once the event closes at 9 we'll have a lot of tired people to get off site and a lot of clear up to start. The site will hopefully be clear of participants by 11am when people can have a few hours off..
Sunday Afternoon & Monday
We really need to get people back in for 2pm on Sunday to do a mass clearance on the site. The more people we have the easier it will be on everybody. There will be pizza in the square for dinner as soon as we have finished! All of the fields will need to be swept for activities and rubbish and the site needs to be put back to a busines state for Monday morning for big school groups that will be coming in from 8am the next day.
Will the bar be open?
We expect the bar to be open if Sedexho are able to provide staff on Friday night, there will be lots of setup work to do so if you could do a bit of both Friday night it will be very appreaciated. The Scout Association have changed their guidance regarding alcohol and as such no one under the age of 18 may consume alcohol on Scout property or at a Scout event. ALso due to the nature of the event and to ensure everyone is able to give their best there will be no bar on Saturday night. Sunday night will be the World Cup final and we'll arrange something in the square for staff remaining onsite.
What should I wear?
We are suggesting that wherever possible all Service Team should wear one of the new Burgundy T-Shirts, Gilwell Rugby shirts and suitable clothing and footwear for an outside potentially physical activity. If you know the area you are going to be working in then other clothing may be appropriate (Kitchens, Pool for example).
Why Burgundy and not Orange? The Activity Centre has made the decision that their staff colour is Burgundy and all staff now wear this colour. In order to make all our staff easily identifyable we will extend this to all events staff wherever possible (Some contractors may choose to wear their own team clothing etc.) In order of preference we would like you to wear Burgundy, Orange and then a contractor team top. The new t-shirts available as part of the staff packs will be Burgundy and the new special event tops for 2007 will be as well. The discounted price of the staff pack is to reflect this change in stance. If you have any further questions please email Dave Gillard dgillard@cds.net.uk or call 0751058046
