Information for Senior Section Guides
Gilwell 24 is open to all Senior Section Guides aged between 14 and 18. If you are over 18 and wish to take part you may be interested in attending the event as staff.
What paperwork do we need to complete?
Once you have completed your booking form you will receive a nominal role sheet, Gilwell 24 consent form and a PADI consent form. The second two will need to be completed by all members attending the event. Each unit will also need to complete a Guide A/A form or in some cases A/S form.
Can we attend without a leader?
Yes, your unit needs to ensure they have sufficient members holding Senior Section permits. Each permit holder attending the event can take responsibility for eight additional Senior Section members. You will then be assigned to our headless chicken team who will be around in case you run into any problems during the event.
We want to attend but our leader doesn't yet have a permit or none of our members have a permit and we want to attend without a leader?
If this is the case you need to be assigned to a Guider who does hold a suitable permit to enable you to attend the event. In addition our headless chicken team will help to ensure they are around in the event of any problems.
Our Unit is attending but we have more permit holders / leaders with permits then we need can we help someone else?
It is our understanding that a Senior Section member cannot be responsible for other Senior Section members that they don't have a relationship with. So a Senior Section unit of Six people all who hold permits can't take responsibility for two others that don't hold any permits as they are not known to each other.
If you hold a permit as a leader and your group is already covered by other leaders and you would like to help other units attend Gilwell 24 please let us know - info@gilwell24.info we would camp the two units together and annex on the unleadered unit to your own unit.
Which forms & Paperwork do we need to bring with us?
1) You will need to bring with you a copy of your Permit if you will be using it to attend the event. 2) You will also need to complete a nominal role for so we have details of everyone attending the event and emergency contact information. (This will be available as an online form to speed the checkin process).
3) Each member will need to bring a Gilwell 24 consent form this will be supplied once you have made your booking and covers parental consent to attend the event and take part in activities requiring particular parental consent. Each participant will need to keep this piece of paper with them.
4) Each member who wishes to try Scuba Diving needs to complete a PADI consent form
which includes a medical questionaire. Again this form will be kept by the participant until they attend the Scuba Diving session they have booked for.
5) Your group will also have a consent form from each member
to attend the event and any medical information that may be required. This is the responsibility of the individual group and the forms will be held by the group leader or permit holder
Do we need to arrive in Uniform?
We are expecting all groups to arrive with uniform from the waist up.
Should we bring / buy / acquire / consume alcohol?
We have received new guidance in May 2006 that the Scout Associations policy has changed an no alcohol should be consumed by those under the age of 18.
Are we able to take part in all the activities?
Although this event is run by Gilwell Park under Scout Association rules the Guide Association rules still apply to any members of the Guide Association attending this event. This means that you will be unable to take part in the Laser Mission / Woodland Quasar activity as this is banned under Guide Association rules.
