Getting them to 24
2007 will be the fourth year of Gilwell 24 and the fourth year of stress and panic as the date rapidly approaches and we sit by the door waiting for the bookings to in. We understand it is very difficult to get commitment from Explorers and Rangers to come to an event when they have to take time off work and possibly pay for it themselves so we are putting together some ideas to help.
More ideas will be coming shortly. (As long as you supply them.. )
£1 a week for the New Year
Why not start collecting £1 a week towards going to Gilwell 24. If you start in the New Year (by the 14th January) they will have collected the basic 24 hour fee by the time the event comes round. There will be two packages this year - one for 9am Saturday - 9am Sunday (£24) the other including Friday night as well (£30). Plus there will be meal options available but perhaps there are other ways to fund the food and transport?
Things not to miss!
Its a bit different (probably) to their normal weekend activities. Spending 24 hours awake in the middle of a nice summer weekend with 1200 other young people, plenty of fun and exciting activities with the chance to prove they really can think and do things after a late night and early morning.
Sunrise and Sunset
Part of Gilwell is situated looking day over two massive reservoirs and across to North London - a very special place at the end of the day to watch the Sunset and then rise again.
Chance of a lifetime
Some things only come round once in a lifetime. What will your Explorers be doing on this special weekend in time. What will you be doing at 07:07:07 on the 07/07/07 shortly before the event starts. Please remember the event starts at 9:00 am exactly no delays, no false starts!
If you have any other ideas of schemes please let us know - hopefully this will mean more young people will come to the event and 60% of bookings won't arrive in the 5 days before the closing date for bookings.
Visiting you
Hopefully there is enough information on the website to make the Explorers or Senior Section want to come and hopefully a couple of them will drive the acitvity forward and help get the booking in to ensure they don't miss out. If you think we'd be any good at convincing your Explorers to come to Gilwell 24 then drop us an email and we'll try and arrange a time to visit one of your meetings. Also if your unit has come up with an activity idea that you aren't sure you can do on your own please let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen.
